ART: Varsity Varsity by Jen Phan

I decided to paint this illustration of Adrianne Ho after seeing Jake Davis’s test shot video on Hypebeast. Plus, seeing the same Supreme jacket hanging off of Vashtie’s coat rack every time I stepped into the office reminded me that I really needed to finish this piece.

You can always count on a good ol’ varsity jacket to transform any outfit into a classic look!

ART: Train Sessions With Lana Del Rey

Hello dear VIOLETTE readers!

I’d like to share a quick piece I sketched on the train after I got done with class today! I dug through my tote bag to only find a red, yellow, green and black sharpie. -__- lol sooooo this is what I made of it while listening to Lana Del Rey’s video games.

LIFE: Motor Grrl Garage – Brooklyn

My good friend Houston is in the process of rebuilding his bike, so I decided to make a quick pit stop in BK to check out the progress he’s made so far. Once I got to there, I started snapping random photos of the garage and some of the bikes. A change of scenery was much needed, since I’ve recently been struck with artist’s block.

While the fairy was working, I whipped out my moleskine and started sketching some of the vintage bikes. I have to admit, I really enjoyed the quietness because it allowed me to fall into full relaxation. As an art student, I’m always challenging myself to find new ways to become inspired. Who would’ve known that a garage would bring me so many great ideas.

SHOES: Supra Fall 2010

A couple of great arrivals to show you guys. A new drop from Supra Footwear released last week and I’m just lovinnnnn the simple silhouette of the Belay slip-ons! Everyone needs a pair of “wear with anything” sneakers and these are perfect.

The Belay slip-on takes styling cues from the Cuban and wraps them up in a slimmer, low-profile package.

Cabernet Patent Cuttler

As with the other recent Supra Fall 2010 styles, the Cuttler will also be available in Grey Waxed Fleece, Black/Grey Fullgrain/Suede and Navy Seersucker colorways.

TRAVEL: Oh The Places You Can Go!

Everyone has a list of things they want to do before they fall over and die. It’s often referred to as the… BUCKET LIST! Let’s be honest for a second, we all work too damn hard towards our goals and often leave our dreams to the wayside, hoping that they will magically happen on their own.

My friends and I all agreed that traveling is listed (in no particular order) on our top three things to do. I mean, who wouldn’t want the chance to hop on a plane and fly to a location that they’ve never been to. Well our dear VIOLETTE readers, if you have some free time to spare, JetBlue recently brought back its’ All-You-Can-Jet pass. This pass will allow anyone to travel to an unlimited number of cities over a one-month period.  So here’s the perfect opportunity to make at least one dream happen! ;)

Here’s the deal:
The pass is valid for flights between September 7th and October 6th.
Tier one: A pass that excludes travel on Fridays and Sundays $499
Tier two: An unlimited pass for $699

DESIGN: Let’s Take A Dip

Since summer has approached, I’ve found it almost impossible to get to the nearest beach in less than an hour. Fortunately, a friend of mine has shined some hope in my life by introducing me to a new remarkable project that a group of designers and architects from +Pools are attempting to create.  The goal is to design innovative infrastructures for the public by building FLOATING POOLS IN THE RIVERS OF NEW YORK CITY! Seriously, how amazing would this be?

The new pools will be designed to act like giant strainers filtering out bacteria, pollutants and odors that ultimately will provide a clean and safe way for the public to swim in New York’s waters. But before we get overly excited about this project, +Pools’ next step is to partner up with developmental and environmental groups to raise public and private interest for support. To find out more, contact them at info@pluspool.org.
