Shout-outs to the Hofstra homie, DAISHA GRAF!
Friday night, I partook in a celebratory dinner with my old pal JOHN.

SGROPPINO PRIMAVERA this cocktail was AMAZING. Sorbet and prosecco!

Bread was crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy inside with parm and herbs on top.
WARM MUSHROOM SALAD with poached egg and crispy prosciutto: This was surprisingly tasty. I’m not a fan of oozing yolks, but the yolk was like an extended dressing for the salad. The tiny croutons hiding underneath was also a very nice surprise.

ROASTED BRUSSEL SPROUTS WITH PANCETTA & PECORINO: I mean, the description is enough.

MY GRANDMOTHER’S RAVIOLI: My Grandma didn’t make ravioli, but after tasting this I wish she would have.
WOOD-FIRED PORK CHOP with Yukon gold potatoes, trumpet mushrooms and walnuts: This chop was delicious! I don’t know if they smoked it, but it tasted more like ham than a chop. I had to stop myself from picking up the plate and drinking the jus.
We’ve reached the dessert portion of the evening. Locanda Verde did not disappoint.
CHOCOLATE TORTA with hazelnut gelato & MAPLE BUNDINO cranberry-blood orange conserve, cranberry sorbetto
The BUNDINO didn’t make no kind of sense! (That means, it was really, really good)

not the CASH MONEY boys. MISSY’s song and video were HOT! i don’t think i could ever forget E-V-E’s words. especially after seeing her perform live during the CASH MONEY/RUFF RYDERS tour stop in ATLANTA when i was 15. you couldn’t tell me nothing! my outfit had been carefully planned like i was going to be on stage. AIR MAX 99′s + GIRBAUD jacket, pants, & t!
when EVE stepped out of that disco ball wearing that cropped mink and cowboy hat, i felt like a “brickhouse stallion”.
*my apologies for the censored/slightly blurry version, the official video was disabled
while KARL JUSTIN, VASHTIE and i sipped on dark and stormies, we began to reminisce about good the ol’ EASTBAY catalog. before i knew what a sneakerhead or sneaker boutique was, i was a fiend for the monthly catalog. mixed in with the other mail for my MAMA, EASTBAY was the rare piece of mail addressed to me! i would meticulously look through each page circling and highlighting sneakers and other gear like tear away pants or personalized duffles. i even went as far as cutting out sneakers i wanted, and taping them into letters that i would send to my GRANDMA. (she still has a letter in the family photo album,)
oh EASTBAY, you were a gift and a curse!
while lounging on my couch watching my favorite channel ,VH1 SOUL, PM DAWN’s “DIE WITHOUT YOU” came on. i thought, what happened to the soundtrack?
as a young girl in the 90s, i spent a lot of time on long car rides. back then, good soundtracks were plentiful. i can vividly remember my mama in her new green saturn (yes, my mama had the original saturn) playing both the BOOMERANG and WAITING TO EXHALE soundtracks. everyone knows WAITING TO EXHALE (the entire soundtrack is amazing, so i thought posting all the videos/songs might be a little excessive) was one of BABYFACE’s masterpieces, but BOOMERANG is full of hits and was the solo debut of 90s R&B queen TONI BRAXTON.
VASHTIE and i have discussed at length how having older siblings shaped our musical taste. in 1994, my sisters were in high school and the ABOVE THE RIM soundtrack was their album of choice. this soundtrack featured the original “BIG PIMPIN” along with a slew of hits from west coast artists and SWV
*my favorite from the album, SWEET SABLE’s “OLD TIME SAKE”
although my age kept me from seeing SET IT OFF, i was able to listen to the soundtrack. i actually came home after school one day and wrote QUEEN LATIFAH’s rap from “SET IT OFF”.
the movies were good but the music was great! soundtracks have come since, but none of them compare to the ones above.
