THROWBACK: “Janet” Album – Janet Jackson

My love for JANET JACKSON began in the early 90′s. As she completed my favorite movie of all time, POETIC JUSTICE (which taught me to put Tabasco on my popcorn and burn the end of my braids), she recorded her first album with Virgin Records titled “JANET.” I remember the pretty orange colored CD and the hidden track at the end with lyrics that never made any sense to me but I didn’t care because Janet was always “on some other shit”.

This album has a special place in my heart and I don’t think I’ve ever played an album out the way I did this one. Hearing any song on this album brings me back to my early teenage years and I’m transported to my California bedroom during a time when it was all about talking on the phone (mine was a see through neon Conair), Zima, Motorola pagers, and wearing the colors burgundy and forest/hunter green together while listening to highly age inappropriate song (particularly the end) “THROB”.

Her videos during this time always left me longing to hang out with her “cool” friends who seemed a little “different”.
